Opening Ceremony Spring/Summer ’11 Look Book

19 Jan

I know I’m about a week late on this, but I finally got my hands on the S/S ’11 Opening Ceremony look book shot by what must be a very busy Terry Richardson. Featuring the imitable Lindsey Wixson, the collection comes across as somewhat basic but nevertheless irreverent and fun. Ikat, sheer fabrics, and slinky silhouettes rule Opening Ceremony S/S ’11 in this season’s muted brights and funky detailing. Here are some of my picks, but definitely peep the entire collection at Opening Ceremony.

Fresh Prints: Missoni Spring/Summer 2011

18 Jan

Italian fashion house Missoni certainly seems to be jumping on the color-blocking print bandwagon this season with the release of their Spring/Summer 2011 video ad campaign. The collection exhibits the luxury brand’s signature pallate of vivacious hues in fresh geometric prints and patterns. Missoni’s video is just as vibrant and fun as its collection featuring an inclusive cast and a short cameo around 0:49 of actress Leighton Meester.

Spring Accessories with a Conscious

13 Jan

Ethical fashion has been on the rise in the last decade and continues to pick-up steam with products like the FEED Project‘s juggernaut FEED Bag, Join(RED)‘s multitude of designer collaborations, TOMS canvas shoes, and Falling Whistles‘ striking necklaces to name only a few. Embraced by celebrities, high-brow magazines, and the public at-large, fashion’s growing conscience isn’t going anywhere.

This spring ushers in new products with a larger purpose than keeping you sleek and stylish. Take a look at some of the season’s ethical accessories sure to make a big splash in the coming months.

Super Earth Goods Weekend Bag — Contribute to a greener planet with Super Earth Goods’ Weekend Bag, a handmade top-handled tote assembled completely out of re-purposed materials like like tires, rice sacks, and potato sacks. Originally designed as a weekend carryall for the creator’s boyfriend, this unisex tote can hold a change of clothes and a pair of shoes, but could easily be carried as a handbag to add an earthy, summery flare to any casual outfit. The Weekend Bag is available in two sizes and can be purchased online at Super Earth Goods. And hurry — it’s 50% off right now!

Kayu Bamboo Sunglasses — Inspired by the evolved business model of TOMS slip-ons, San Francisco-based label Kayu funds a sight-restoring surgery to a person in India for every pair of sunglasses purchased. Kayu’s fun and streamlined shades are crafted out of natural bamboo and feature 100 percent UV gradient lenses, for full protection as sunlight becomes stronger in spring and summer. Four styles of the sustainable sunglasses are available from oversized Jackie O. frames to more modernized shapes, including the timeless Wayfarer style, running for $180 each online.

Strawfoot Handmade Bags — Support American handmade goods in your wardrobe with a Strawfoot Handmade tote. Constructed by hand in Northern California entirely from materials sourced in the US, this sturdy shoulder bag makes fashion functional as well as conscientious. This must-have staple is available in four styles and retailing from $128 to $184 online.

Modern Vintage Spring/Summer 2011

11 Jan

Modern Vintage has released its Spring/Summer 2011 look book showcasing platform wedge sandals as its main attraction. We saw murmurs of these beauties last summer, but much like the clog’s moment in 2010, wedge sandals are about to seriously shine in the warmer months of 2011.

Spring’s Most Wearable Hair Trends

10 Jan

Sick of everyone rocking ultra-red tresses and overdone Kim Kardashian-length hair? The world is (hopefully) ready to say goodbye to this year’s most pervasive and annoying hair trends with the emergence of these versatile looks on S/S ’11 runways and magazine previews. Refinery29 shows us that last season’s topknot heads downtown, the pixie gets revived, and dramatic side-parts and bang trends are here to stay. Nothing is over-styled and most of these chic trends can be worn with any hair texture. Peep this season’s most wearable trends after the jump.

Elly Clay Releases Spring 2011 Handbag Preview

7 Jan

New York-based luxury handbag and accessory designer Elly Clay released a first look of its Spring/Summer 2011 handbag line today, showcasing a unique blend of current trends and functionality. Hardware and animal prints are king in this collection, followed by metallic textures, clean lines, and an architectural feel. My personal favorites are the oversized “Billie Jean” zip-front clutches, but the “Lia” wristlets are sure to be the season’s hit with all the arm and bracelet bags I’ve seen for spring so far.

Têca Spring/Summer ’11 Runway Collection

5 Jan

Brazilian brand Têca‘s Spring/Summer ’11 collection defines how powerful simplicity can be in any look. Designed by Helô Rocha, Têca strikes a perfect balance between a military edge and feminine detail in florals and lace. The textures are brilliant, and I especially love the memorable marigold pieces punctuating the line. Watch the runway video below…
